The Addicks are in desperate need of a result as in-form Birmingham City come calling to London.

Should Charlton Athletic be seriously harbouring League One promotion hopes this season, the visit of an in-form Birmingham City will be a real taste of their abilities this weekend.

The Addicks have now lost three league fixtures in a row and Nathan Jones will be desperate to return to form and stop his side freefalling down the division. League One leaders Birmingham City won't be an easy challenge, with Chris Davies' squad full of confidence.

Charlton Athletic team news

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones had been hyping up the return of young striker Miles Leaburn as a 'new signing' and the 20-year-old was finally named in the matchday squad against Bristol Rovers in midweek.

The forward did see some minutes from the bench as the Addicks tried to pull back a remarkable comeback from 3-0 down, but fell just short.

Gassan Ahadme also returned having missed the meeting with Stevenage with a fractured nose and was fit enough to be named in the starting XI by Jones, who has a healthy squad ahead of a visit from Birmingham City.

Speaking after the game, Jones told the Charlton Athletic website: “We’ve got Miles [Leaburn] back, Chuks looked a handful today, Miles looked a handful, Godden was sharp, we’ve got the players there. We’re nine games in, we’ll be fine, we’ve just gone away from that [defensive solidity] a little bit and that’s the frustrating thing.”

Birmingham City team news

Birmingham City defender Dion Sanderson has missed the last month with a foot injury but is back in first team training. The midweek meeting with Huddersfield Town was too early for the 24-year-old to make the matchday squad but he is thought to be in contention for the visit to Charlton Athletic.

Ethan Laird is recovering from an ankle injury and Lee Buchanan has been struggling with his calf since pre-season. Both full-backs are set to miss out at The Valley.

Fulham loanee Luke Harris was ruled out for a month at the start of September, which would suggest a return could be soon, but he was absent from the squad against Huddersfield Town. Alfie Chang is a long term absentee with a knee injury.

Pais Seung-ho was substituted against Peterborough United last weekend with cramp but was fit and back in the starting XI on Tuesday night. Record breaking summer signing Jay Stansfield had also been a doubt but was fine to play.
