Charlton transfer conundrum emerges

Charlton Athletic could have a complicated transfer situation on their hands when it comes to the future of club captain George Dobson.

The midfielder is known to have penned a pre-contract agreement with Hungarian side Fehervar in February. His current Addicks deal is set to expire at the end of the campaign.

However, since then the team has been revitalised by Nathan Jones and the Welshman has shared his desire to keep Dobson at the club. The player himself has remained coy on what his next step may be, even with the pre-contract deal signed.

He told CharltonLive: “There is not a lot I can comment on. I don’t want to be the awkward egg in the room. Football is a weird game. A lot of things happen behind the scenes that you can’t comment on.

“It’s an incredible football club. Whatever happens, I have had the most incredible three years. To captain this football club has been the best honour in my career.

“I genuinely think it will be the best honour of my career. I don’t want to comment too much on it, because I can’t. We will see. I have no regrets on my behalf. I do [think it could have been handled better by Charlton] but that’s football.”

Keeping Dobson at The Valley could prove complicated for the club with South London Press reporting that his Fehervar pre-contract terms are binding. That would mean that Charlton would have to pay a transfer fee to re-sign the player currently on the club's books.

Portsmouth could bring talisman back to Fratton Park

Portsmouth could strike a deal to bring former striker Jamal Lowe back to Fratton Park this summer as they prepare for a return to the Championship.

TBR Football reports that the League One champions are one of several clubs courting the 29-year-old, who was at Pompey between 2016 and 2019. Lowe bagged 29 goals over those three years before moving on to Wigan Athletic, Swansea City and now Bournemouth.

The forward has been on loan at Swansea City this season, where he has scored nine Championship goals. Lowe will be available on a free transfer this summer when his Cherries deal expires.

Portsmouth are reported to be joined by Middlesbrough, Millwall and Watford in looking at a move for the talisman.
