With League One safety confirmed, thoughts at Charlton Athletic are turning towards the summer transfer window and a potential promotion campaign next season.

There's a similar feeling at London rivals Leyton Orient with just one more league match to play this term.

Quality not quantity for Charlton this summer

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones has told supporters that it will be a matter of quality, not quantity when it comes to transfers this summer.

Some are already tipping the Addicks to be promotion candidates next term thanks to the side's form since the Welshman's arrival. On his appointment, Jones was made manager rather than head coach, which he explained would give him a greater say over recruitment.

Following last weekend's point against Shrewsbury, Jones outlined his plans for the summer window in more detail. As reported by London News Online, he said: "We will bring in a number of players – we know exactly the positions we want to bring them in. All those players will be of a level that they improve the 11. We don’t want to bring squad players in because we have got a big enough squad. We have got young players and ones from the academy we will promote.

"It will probably be one of our biggest summers – in terms of numbers – because I don’t like recruiting big numbers every year.

"I’ve had the chance to work with people for 15 games, I’ve evaluated those [players] and they are the ones who can come forward in how I would like us to play. We will come out of this window significantly stronger than we go into it.”

Leyton Orient transfer plan laid out

Nathan Jones isn't the only boss providing fans some insight on what to expect this summer. Richie Wellens did similarly after his Leyton Orient side were beaten by Fleetwood Town last time out.

The O's looked in with a chance of a play-off place at one point this term and will be hoping to finish in the top six next season.

Speaking after the weekend's defeat, Wellens told the official club website: “We need some new players. We need four or five new players who will come in and impact our team. There are certain players who we keep asking them to do things week in, week out, and my patience is wearing thin.

“If we’re happy to be little, old Leyton Orient and to be finishing 15th, 16th, 17th next year, it would probably be another decent season because next year is probably going to be really, really difficult. I don’t want that. I want to get in the play-offs. I want to be competing at the top end of the league. To do that we need to improve.”

Millwall linked with move for Portsmouth youngster

Portsmouth youngster Sam Folarin could be a target for Championship side Millwall this summer, according to The News.

The striker, who made his first team debut in November, is one of the stars due to be released from the south coast side this summer and went through a two-week trial with the Lions' under-21 set-up recently. Folarin started for Millwall against Coventry in a Professional Development League fixture.

He now waits to hear if the club would be interested in snapping him up on a free transfer this summer.
