Nathan Jones’ side had errors in them from the off against the R’s, who were looking to bounce back from a 7-1 defeat to Coventry City last time out. The Addicks helped the hosts get their tails up early on with Paul Smyth capitalising on some lacklustre defending.

Rob Apter gave the visitors a lifeline when his volley bounced past Joe Walsh but a late flurry of action saw Koki Saito and Richard Kone ensure all three points stayed at Loftus Road. Here’s how the Charlton Athletic players rated.

Charlton Athletic player ratings

GK: Thomas Kaminski, 5

Completely rooted to the spot for the QPR winner - that didn’t look good. Did make an impressive save to get down quickly to a Norrington-Davies header just before half time. Never looked like stopping Kone when one on one.

LB: Josh Edwards, 5

In the thick of it today. Was caught out of position for the QPR opener and knew it too, hiding his head in his shirt after the ball hit the back of the net. Plenty of attacking impetus with Leaburn hitting the bar in the first half from his dangerous cross.

CB: Amari’i Bell, 4

Too easily dispossessed by QPR but is capable of playing out well from the back. A half-hearted challenge in injury time helped Kone nip through for the third.

CB: Lloyd Jones. 4

A few misplaced passes early on and he was made a fool of by Koki Saito’s footwork for the second QPR goal.

RB: Kayne Ramsay, 4

Started far too slow against Smyth. The experience winger had the beating of Ramsay early on and made the most of that to steal past him for the first goal. Also at fault for the third.

CM: Conor Coventry, 6

Had his best period of influence shortly before the second QPR goal but the Addicks lacked a presence in midfield today.

CM: Greg Docherty, 7

Perhaps the midfielder who looked like he could make something happen but also struggled for influence.

Nathan Jones’ side lack presence in midfield

CM: Sonny Carey, 6

Frustrated early on, losing his cool when shoving Richard Kone while QPR were setting up for an early free kick, and struggled to get into the game.

LW: Tyreece Campbell, 6

A real mixed bag from Campbell. Often lacked the width that his side needed but also always looked to be a problem for Jimmy Dunne. His cross set up the Charlton Athletic goal but he was also dispossessed ahead of the QPR winner. An easy scapegoat but some of that criticism feels unfair.

ST: Miles Leaburn, 6

Hit the crossbar in the first half but that was his only real moment of goal threat. Did provide a physical presence up top.

RW: Rob Apter, 7

Had a quiet game on the left flank with Charlton Athletic posing more of a threat on the other side. Had just put in an awful cross before hooking that volley goalwards that somehow bounced over the QPR defence - an important strike nonetheless.
