QPR v Charlton Athletic team news with 2 outs and 5 doubts as hosts await Ilias Chair news

Charlton Athletic make the trip to Loftus Road for the first time in five years on Saturday afternoon.

The R’s were thrashed by Coventry City last weekend with Frank Lampard’s side romping to a 7-1 victory. QPR head coach Julien Stephan has since apologised to supporters and demanded more from his side.

The Frenchman said: "I can promise one thing: it will be a completely different game next week against Charlton. We will react for sure next week.

“We did a lot of mistakes today. It's unacceptable. We will think about the next week and how we can react. This is a big challenge. This is the first time in my career I have to deal with a score like this, but in football you learn a lot. I just want to promise that next week it will be completely different and you will see a completely different team."

Meanwhile, Charlton Athletic were knocked out the Carabao Cup by League Two side Cambridge United on Tuesday evening with Nathan Jones criticising his young side. The Welshman said: “I just didn’t see any fight in the energy. Normally, we out-work, out-press, out-run teams. Tonight, I can’t remember us doing that.

“I don’t think anyone took it [the opportunity to play]. Maybe [Ibby] Fullah, because he had one or two bits of real quality, but the rest of them, no. Look, it’s a makeshift team, it’s not in rhythm, we changed certain things, we want people to get minutes, so that’s a bit on me, but I expect us to be better. With the quality we had out there, I expect us to really affect the game.”

QPR team news

QPR winger Ilias Chair missed the 7-1 defeat to Coventry City having sustained an injury in training last week. The club didn’t put a time frame on that when confirming with a further assessment needed. Ziyad Larkeche suffered an ACL injury in training earlier this month and is set for several months on the sidelines.

The R’s continue to be without Jake Clarke-Salter and Michael Frey, who are due to return to first team training after the upcoming international break - the former is recovering from surgery with the latter dealing with a calf problem. Summer signing Kwame Poku is also expected to be out until after the break with a hamstring injury.

QPR announced a trio of signings on Sunday in returning winger Koki Saito, Sheffield United loanee Rhys Norrington-Davies and former Newcastle United man Isaac Hayden, who could feature against Charlton Athletic.

Doubts - Ilias Chair. Outs - Ziyad Larkeche, Jake Clarke-Salter, Michael Frey, Kwame Poku.

Charlton Athletic team news

Charlton Athletic manager Nathan Jones had teased a potential return to fitness for summer signing Reece Burke ahead of facing Leicester City but the defender didn’t make the matchday squad, and was absent against Cambridge United in midweek. The Addicks boss had said: “We’ve had Reece Burke back in full training this week. We are in a better position than we were.”

Matty Godden continues to be an absence for Charlton Athletic having undergone a ‘minor’ knee surgery over the summer. The striker, who scored 22 goals in all competitions last season, did not feature in pre-season and is yet to make an appearance.
