Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient are battling for a League One play-off spot over the run-in.

The race for a play-off spot is hotting up in League One with both London clubs Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient in the mix to challenge for promotion to the Championship come the end of the season.

Birmingham City look to be runaway league winners with a six point gap and two games in hand over second place Wycombe Wanderers, but just four points separate sixth and ninth in League One as it stands.

Here's the latest from Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient ahead of this weekend's action.

Charlton Athletic star hopes to ‘achieve something’ this season

Charlton Athletic striker Matty Godden has sent a rallying call to teammates and supporters after an 'unbelievable' run of form for the League One side.

The Addicks have lost just two of their last 14 league games, the 1-0 defeat to league leaders Birmingham City last time out the first taste of defeat after six unbeaten. Godden has starred for Charlton Athletic in that period, with four goals in his last five. Nathan Jones' side now sit seventh in a tightly packed League One table, three points off London rivals Leyton Orient and the play-off places.

Speaking to BBC Radio London, Godden admitted that the squad had high hopes for the season, hinting at promotion ambitions. He said: "The run we've been on since the middle of December has been unbelievable. We've had two defeats [in 14 league games], but there are a lot of wins in there.  The place is feeling really upbeat and it's still upbeat even after a loss at the weekend. We need to get our feet back on the gas and get going again on Saturday into another busy period.

"It’s always a good thing to put smiles on fans' faces. We've started to see the change really now and the fans are starting to believe as much as we are that we can achieve something this season, and that's so important."

Bolton Wanderers injury boost ahead of Leyton Orient six-pointer

Bolton Wanderers have been handed an injury boost ahead of welcoming the in-form Leyton Orient this weekend. The O's have won three on the bounce in the third tier and currently occupy a play-off spot in sixth place.

Bolton are just three points and two places below the London outfit ahead of Saturday and could have their hopes of getting a result increased thanks to the return of defender Chris Forino. The 24-year-old has only managed three League One appearances all season due to a hamstring injury.

The defender was snapped up by Bolton Wanderers last summer as a free agent from Wycombe Wanderers and was a promising addition having been a starting XI regular with the Chairboys. Steven Schumacher gave Forino two minutes off the bench in the win over Shrewsbury Town last time out and now the player has made further steps forward in his recovery.

Forino played another 45 minutes for the Bolton Wanderers under-21 side against Blackburn Rovers in the LFA Senior Cup, helping the side to a 2-1 win this week. Speaking afterwards, Andy Taylor told The Bolton News: “I thought it was a really good, competitive game. Obviously Blackburn, a big club. It was a 21’s group so they had a strong group. Like us, they had a first-teamer coming back from injury.

“I thought we did really well. Particularly in the second half, we got a grip of the game and with a little bit more quality and composure on that transition, we could have been a couple more goals to the good. Overall, really good in terms of the performance. It is a cup competition so we go into the game wanting to win, and we did.”
