Update emerges regarding Brentford man’s injury situation ahead of Newcastle United clash

Brentford defender Pontus Jansson is ‘expected’ to miss the trip to Newcastle United this weekend.

The Sweden international tweaked his hamstring last time out in the 0-0 draw against AFC Bournemouth.

Thomas Frank said after the game against the Cherries that he would be assessed this week.

As detailed in a report by The Athletic, although he is unlikely to play on Saturday, he ‘should not be out much longer than that’ which is a boost.

Brentford’s options

Brentford have a few selection woes in their defensive department at the moment with the likes of Ethan Pinnock and Kristoffer Ajer nursuing injuries over recent times, although the latter did feature against Bournemouth.

Mathias Jorgensen was brought on for Jansson in the last game and seems the most likely to take his place from the start at St. James’ Park.

The Bees have made a steady start to the new campaign as they look to replicate their success from last term.

Frank’s men are currently 10th in the league table having won two, drawn four and lost out of their opening eight matches.

They swooped to sign the likes of Keane Lewis-Potter, Aaron Hickey and Mikkel Damsgaard over the summer and they have been carefully integrating the new players into the side.
