Brentford defender Pontus Jansson picked up an injury over the weekend.

The Bees had to substitute the Sweden international during their 0-0 draw away at AFC Bournemouth.

Jansson, 31, has a hamstring worry and is being assessed by Thomas Frank’s side now.

Next up for the London club is an away trip to Newcastle United on Saturday.

‘I think he’ll be out...’

Speaking to the official club website after the stalement against the Cherries, Frank said:

“It’s most likely a hamstring injury, but I don’t know how big it is. I think he’ll be out for the Newcastle game. He’ll be assessed tomorrow.”

Not having Jansson for the match at St. James’ Park will be a blow for Brentford.

He is a key player in the heart of defence for them and has been a regular since his switch from Leeds United back in 2019, making 109 appearances in all competitions. Frank brought Mathias Jorgensen on for him against Bournemouth.

The Bees have made a decent start to the new Premier League season and find themselves sat in 10th position after the opening eight games.

They have won two, drawn four and lost two so far and are only four points off the top four.

Their next opponents Newcastle go into this weekend on the back of their 4-1 away win at Fulham and they have only lost once this term.
