Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, pundit Alan Shearer has labelled Brentford as ‘unbelievable’ after they picked up another three points this weekend. The Bees comfortably breezed past Southampton 3-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Thomas Frank’s side took the lead after on 41 minutes through defender Ben Mee and doubles their lead just three minutes later through the impressive Bryan Mbeumo. They then added one more goal in the second-half when midfielder Mathias Jensen scored a header 10 minutes from time.

Shearer was impressed with what he saw from Brentford and had some kind words to say: “They are unbelievable. They respect who you are but they fear no one. They go about their job.

“They are very, very good at what they do. They get balls into the box, but not only that, they get numbers into the box. That causes big problems to the opposition and did today. Southampton were terrible, they couldn’t defend.”

He added: “It could’ve been more (than 3-0). It should have been more. They’re 7th! What a season.”

When asked whether European football is a possibility, Ian Wright chipped in and said: “Why not? Why shouldn’t they? Any top six team that goes there, they’ll have a go at them.”

The London club are now 7th in the league after their brilliant campaign so far and are three points off Tottenham Hotspur in 5th. They are unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games and have table toppers Arsenal up next at the Emirates Stadium.

In other Brentford news, Frank was pleased to see Aaron Hickey back in the side. He told the club website: “It’s nice to see him back, really good. I think he played well in the 60 minutes, so it was promising.”
