English Premier League side Brentford have no intentions of losing midfielder Christian Eriksen who joined the club on a short term contract in January.

Eriksen joined the Premier League debutants on a six-month deal after he recovered from a cardiac arrest he suffered while playing for Denmark at the Euros.

According to LondonWorld’s sources close to the player, he had to take a significant wage cut to complete the deal as the Bees offered nothing close to the wages he’s been used to at Tottenham and Inter Milan.

Key to the deal was his relationship with manager Thomas Frank who extended an invitation to the midfielder, and always always stayed in touch with him throughout the incredibly difficult period.

At that time of signing in January, the deal made sense to all involved, Eriksen was desperate to return to the field and saw Brentford as a perfect environment to prove his fitness.

While Brentford needed a marquee signing to inspire a team who were fading away dangerously.

Both have since enjoyed their relationship.

The main reason his contract was cancelled at Inter Milan was that the Serie A does not allow players who have cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) inserted in them to compete.

So a return to Italy is not on the cards for the midfielder.

This week, the 30-year-old is in line to make an emotional return to the Danish national team after being named in the squad for friendlies against Netherlands and Serbia.

Brentford who are fighting for Premier League status know survival will be key in keeping the midfielder beyond this season.

They are aiming for wins against Watford, Southampton, Everton and Leeds to guarantee another Premier League season.

Eriksen has settled into life at Brentford and is open to extending his stay at the club, but all that could change if the Bees go down, and he is offered a deal by another Premier League side to continue playing at this level.

As things stand, the club have made their first move by informing his representatives that they would love to have him for another season and Eriksen is leaning toward that idea.

The midfielder was notably absent in Brentford’s 2-1 defeat to Leicester before the international break having tested positive for Covid-19.

His manager Thomas Frank confirmed he would still link up with his international team-mates for the first time since he went down against Finland during the Euros.

The Brentford manager said: ““The national team are due to meet Monday and they are in touch with Eriksen.

“Perhaps he will arrive a couple of days later. It would be fantastic to see him play for Denmark again.

“It was a big milestone to get him on the pitch again for us. It would be a big milestone to play for Denmark again - after that it is just football.”

Eriksen has featured in three Premier League games of which Brentford have won two and lost one, his debut against Newcastle.

He has one assist and created the most chances of any Brentford player in the period he’s on the pitch.
