Winger turned down

Brentford ‘declined’ the chance to sign Manchester United winger Mason Greenwood in the last transfer window, according to The Athletic. The London club decided not to land the 21-year-old along with the likes of Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Roma. He ended up moving to Spain to link up with La Liga outfit Getafe.

Striker wanted

Chelsea are considering a winter swoop for Ivan Toney as they look to bolster their striking options after a slow start to the campaign, as per the Evening Standard. The Bees signed the 27-year-old back in 2020 from Peterborough United and he helped them gain promotion from the Championship in his first year. He has made 124 appearances in all competitions to date and has found the net on 68 occasions.

International duty

Brentford defender Nathan Collins is ready for international duty with Republic of Ireland. His nation are in action against France on Thursday and he has told the Irish Examiner: “Everybody knows how tough France are but as I’ve said before the manager and staff gives us so much confidence that we are ready to go to war with them.

“We caused France so many problems at home and we were defensively really good. If we can be defensively really good again I honestly feel we have the quality in the squad to go hurt them and get something out of this game. Maybe in the first 30 minutes we get a goal and put them on the backfoot.”
