‘Real’ - Graeme Souness makes Arsenal admission after Tottenham win

Arsenal have been told they still need to prove themselves against the best amid their fine start to the campaign.

The Gunners have been excellent so far, winning all but one to remain top of the Premier League table.

Mikel Arteta’s men made relatively easy work of rivals Tottenham - who also got off to a fine start - over the weekend, and the Gunners are still sitting pretty.

Along with Manchester City, Arsenal have been the standout team so far, and there have been few signs of the deficiencies they showed last season when they came up short of a top four finish, even in their single defeat, to Manchester United.

At this point, it’s difficult to doubt Arsenal’s Premier League title credentials, but there is still plenty of the season to play, and Arsenal are yet to play last season’s top two.

So far, City have looked unstoppable - still unbeaten at this point - while Liverpool have made a slow start to the season.

But according to Sky Sports and talkSPORT pundit Graeme Souness, Arsenal are going to have to prove themselves against City and the Reds to really prove those title credentials.

“I think it’s upwards and onwards for Arsenal, I think they’re playing a brand of football that we’re all enjoying,” said Souness on talkSPORT.

“But I still come back to it, the real tests will be against Liverpool, Man City.

“And that in itself is a compliment because if you were talking about this a year ago, there would be seven or eight teams you could rattle off as a test for them.”

Arsenal face Liverpool next in the Premier League, at Anfield, while they are still waiting for a date for the City clash.

The original first clash of the season between the Gunners and City has been postponed due to Arsenal needing to play their postponed Europa League fixture with PSV.

The schedule-makers are still looking for a new date.
