The January transfer window came to an end yesterday and the Gunners had failed to sign the striker they so badly needed.

Mikel Arteta’s didn’t bring in any significant signings, while they saw a number of players depart the club.

Arsenal have been left sparce in a number of areas, with their outgoings leaving them with three senior centre-backs and two forwards.

Despite the window closing yesterday, clubs are still able to complete signings from the free agent market.

While many of these players aren’t as high quality as fans would hope, they can be useful in bolstering squad depth.

Here are some free agents Arsenal could look to sign...

Diego Costa

Diego Costa became a free agent following his departure from Atletico Mineiro.

The striker impressed during his time with Chelsea, scoring 52 league goals across three seasons.

Costa turns 34 this year and certainly won’t be the same forward we saw at Stamford Bridge but could be a good replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Jack Wilshere

Arsenal were hopeful of bringing in a central midfielder in January - with Douglas Luiz linked - however failed in their attempt.

Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has been without a club since leaving Bournemouth last year and has been training with the Gunners in recent months.

While it is unlikely the 30-year-old will feature for the senior team in the future, he could be a potential back-up option.

Mateo Musacchio

Arsenal are set to rely on Ben White, Gabriel and Rob Holding in the centre of defence - not the most experienced trio.

Musacchio is a free agent since leaving Lazio, whom he joined from AC Milan last year.

The centre-back is only 31 and could provide the Gunners’ backline with some leadership.

Marcelo Sarrachi

Marcelo Sarrachi was released by RB Leipzig in December after he tore his cruciate knee ligaments in pre-season.

In July, the Bundesliga club claimed that the left-back could return to action in the second half of the campaign.

Sarrachi made 27 appearances whilst on loan with Galatasaray last season, picking up two assists.
