With just hours left to go in the January transfer window, there is still plenty of speculation surrounding Arsenal and any potential business they might wrap up.

For much of the month, focus has been on whether or not Mikel Arteta would be able to recruit a suitable replacement for the seemingly exit-bound Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and as yet, we still don’t have a definitive answer to that question.

As time continues to tick away and tonight’s 11pm deadline looms larger and larger, we’ve rounded up three of the latest updates that could have an impact on the Gunners’ forward line over the remainder of the campaign.

Aubameyang move in doubt

Despite continued speculation suggesting that the striker’s days in North London are numbered, one last late twist may just ensure that he remains at the Emirates this evening.

For much of the day, the expectation has been that he would seal a move to La Liga giants Barcelona, with a deal seemingly on the cusp of completion.

Now, however, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that talks have “broken down” over a disagreement regarding the player’s salary demands.

Aubameyang, who had flown to Spain, could now head back to Arsenal unless Barca can find “major money” to resolve the issue.

Gunners offered Taremi

In other news, Arsenal have reportedly been offered the chance to sign FC Porto striker Mehdi Taremi on loan.

According to American outlet CBS Sports, the Gunners are working tirelessly to bolster their attacking lineup in the closing stages of the transfer window, and one potential option is the 29-year-old Iranian international.

Taremi joined Porto from Rio Ave in 2020, and has since gone on to score 36 goals in 77 outings, including 13 in 29 this term.

But despite his relatively prolific record in Portugal, it is understood that the attacker has been offered to the Gunners on a temporary deal.

Having arrived at Porto for a fee of around £4.25 million, it is claimed that Taremi has a release clause of around £50 million written into his contract.

Dembele snubs Arsenal

Meanwhile, Arsenal look to be out of the running for Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele.

The Frenchman has been at the centre of a protracted contract saga in recent weeks, but has ultimately decided against renewing his current deal in Catalonia, and as such is expected to leave Barca in the coming hours as the club look to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer.

His destination is unlikely to be North London, however.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the wide man has “no interest” in signing for the Gunners.

The Independent had reported that Barca offered Dembele to Arsenal as a makeweight in any potential deal for Aubameyang.
