Edu linked with Premier League rivals as Arsenal immediate transfer priorities outlined

Edu could make the jump to a fellow Premier League club after his Arsenal departure.

Arsenal are gearing up for a massive Champions League clash in midweek against Inter Milan, following their disappointing loss against Newcastle United last weekend. In the meantime, let’s see at what is happening around the Emirates Stadium today.

Edu left his role as Arsenal’s sporting director earlier in the week - now, the Brazilian is in the sights of another club in the Premier League and could make the jump sooner rather than later.

Meanwhile, Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta will give insight into the futures of several key Arsenal players in an upcoming press conference - he will delve into their contract situations and will give updates on whether they will be handed fresh deals or not.

Edu linked with move to Nottingham Forest following departure from Arsenal

Following his departure from Arsenal, Edu has been linked with another club in the Premier League almost immediately. According to a report on X (formerly Twitter) from journalist Jorge Nicola, Edu is the subject of interest from Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.

While he does not want Edu to take up a job with Forest directly, he wants the Brazilian to ‘manage’ a group of clubs that he owns. This includes Rio Ave in Portugal, Olympiacos in Greece and, of course, Forest. In addition to this, Marinakis is also keen to add Vasco da Gama in Brazil to his collection.

It is unclear what Edu’s exact role will be in overseeing this quartet of football teams - however, it is believed that Marinakis wants him to act as a ‘CEO’ in some capacity.

Edu spent over five years as sporting director of Arsenal, joining the club in 2019 and becoming their first ever technical director in the process. Previously, he had also acted as the general director of the Brazilian national team and was the director of football at Corinthians.

As a player, he featured for the club between the years of 2001 and 2005 - he also played for clubs such as Corinthians, Valencia and the Brazilian national team.

Mikel Arteta to outline futures of key Arsenal players in upcoming press conference

A huge press conference is on the horizon for Arsenal, according to the Standard. Mikel Arteta is set to address the future of several key players ahead of their game in the Champions League against Inter Milan, including Bukayo Saka, William Saliba and Gabriel. He will also speak on Gabriel Martinelli’s existing deal, but as he has an option in his contract to extend it by an additional year, he is seen as less of a priority at the moment.

As things stand, the contracts of Saka, Saliba and Gabriel are all due to expire in the summer of 2027. As such, when the end of the current campaign rolls around, they will each have two years remaining at the club. They will need to be either tied down with fresh deals or sold - lest the Gunners run the risk of losing them on free transfers.

When Edu left the club earlier in the week, the contract situations of several players became significantly muddier. Arteta will also need to address how the Gunners are planning to progress without the 46 year old at his side.
