I can't believe Arsenal let 'very good' winger leave after dazzling 8/10 performance for Fulham

Fulham secured the loan signing of Reiss Nelson from Arsenal on Transfer Deadline Day in August.

Arsenal could be living to regret the decision to loan winger Reiss Nelson to Fulham this season as the 24-year-old put in a head-turning performance against Brentford on Monday night.

Marco Silva's side left it very late to claim a victory against their West London rivals with Harry Wilson bagging an injury time brace to complete a 2-1 comeback. The Welshman stole the headlines with his classy finishes having come on to replace Nelson, but the Gunners loanee had Craven Cottage purring too.

Arsenal loanee puts in 8/10 performance

The winger was afforded his first Premier League start by Silva and flourished on the left flank, linking up with full-back Antonee Robinson and familiar attacking midfielder Emile Smith-Rowe. Nelson ran Brentford defender Mads Roerslev ragged, enjoying good goalscoring opportunities from the early moments.

LondonWorld rated the Arsenal loanee an 8/10 for his performance on the night and said: "If he plays like that every game, that starting role will be his. A little rushed when pulling the trigger, but more of a goal threat than Adama would have likely been in the same position. Caused problems on the right flank too when told to switch by Silva."

With such pace and trickery, watching that performance may have been painful for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. The North London outfit failed to break down a Newcastle United defence at the weekend - something Nelson managed to do when scoring for Fulham against the Magpies in September - and are now winless in their last three top flight fixtures.

Silva - ‘Nelson should have scored’

Asked about Nelson's importance to the Fulham squad after the match against Brentford, Silva said: "The competition is there in that position with Harry Wilson, with Adama, with Alex Iwobi and with Reiss Nelson as well. Of course I need to take decisions and it's important for them to understand that nothing is guaranteed in this football club. Those are good headaches for me as well.

"[He had a] very good first half, he created some great moments on the left hand side. That's why he started there. The left hand side with Emile Smith-Rowe, Alex Iwobi and Robinson, it's been very good. I changed the position of Iwobi to go on the right hand side, last week he was the best player against Everton.

"We knew we'd need some one-vs-one situations in our left hand side with Reiss Nelson. It was a very good first half for him but we should have scored as he created some chances in that moment. He's a player that has had a good impact in our squad so far and is going to help us be stronger throughout the season."
