Arsenal take on Porto this evening in a bid to reach the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League - a feat which they have not managed since 2010.

Between 1998/99 and 2016/17, the Gunners qualified for the Champions League for 19 seasons which is a feat only Real Madrid can improve upon. However, during this run there was only one finals appearances and the majority of these 19 campaigns ended in the last 16 round. Not only that, but 2017 was the last time the Emirates club reached the knockout rounds of the Champions League with this year also marking their seventh straight exit in the round of 16.

2009/10 marked the last time the side reached further than the round of 16 but they were ultimately undone by Barcelona and the year before saw them reach the semi-finals of the tournament before Manchester United knocked them out. Their last time in a UCL final came in 2005/06 but goals from Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o and Julian Belletti saw the Gunners hopes quickly disappear.

This year's last 16 sees Arteta's men already 1-0 down on aggregate having lost to Porto in their first leg in Portugal and will hope they can reverse what appears to be a pre-determined result as they welcome Sergio Conceicao's side to North London this evening.

The Spanish boss could, however, be without Gabriel Martinelli after the Brazilian winger hobbled off the pitch during the Gunners' demolition of Sheffield United last Monday. Takehiro Tomiyasu is another of Arteta's doubts and despite being seen back in training, a mid-week game is set to prove too early for the Japanese international.
