The club are said to have received a £30m offer on final day of transfer window

Arsenal are reportedly set to open contract talks with Belgian winger Leandro Trossard after the 29-year-old was the recipient of a last-minute surprise bid of around £30 million from the Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad.

On Monday - the last day of the Saudi transfer summer window - Arsenal are believed to have received the aforementioned bid but quickly rejected it, with neither Arsenal nor head coach Mikel Arteta having any intention of parting ways with the ‘super sub’.

Now, according to sources from Football Insider, Trossard could be in line for a new deal following his impressive Gunners form and the recent transfer interest in him. The winger first joined the Gunners in January 2023 from Brighton and, despite the recent arrival of Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan, Trossard is still seen as a key component to Arteta’s squad.

The 29-year-old contributed with a combined 19 goals and assists in 46 appearances across all competitions last term, often being deployed as a substitute. He started just 25 of those 46 fixtures last term.

The start of the 2024/25 campaign indicates that little has changed with Trossard scoring within two minutes of coming onto the pitch during Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa two weekends ago.

Trossard is currently said to be on £90,000-a-week (£4.7m-a-year) but with a contract extension on the cards, it is highly likely this figure could rise to match the likes of Takehiro Tomiyasu (£100,000-a-week) or Ben White’s (£150,000-a-week) estimated ages, the pair of whom have also recently benefited from signing extensions with the N7 club.

It is also not just the players who are set for deal extensions, with Arteta also in line to sign on the dotted line. While there has been little update on the situation, despite the Spaniard now in his final year, the most recent reports from earlier this summer detailed Arteta confirming that ‘it will happen.’

It is imagined that now the transfer window is out the way - with Arsenal acquiring goalkeeper David Raya; defender Riccardo Calafiori, midfielder Mikel Merino and the on-loan winger Sterling - and following a strong start to the season in which the Gunners have secured seven points from three fixtures, it won’t be long before Arteta’s extended stay at the Emirates is confirmed.
