Emile Smith Rowe has issued an update on his recovery as he continues to battle his way back from injury.

It has been a frustrating campaign for the Arsenal star, who has missed recent weeks due to requiring surgery on a groin issue. The decision was made that Smith Rowe would need surgery to correct the problem, even though it meant he missed out on any chance of winning a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup.

Smith Rowe has also lost ground in battle for a starting spot amid the impressive performances of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka, but he will still play a big part for Arsenal when he does return. And it’s hoped that return will come when Arsenal return from the World Cup break in just over a month.

“Hopefully by the first game back after the World Cup,” Smith Rowe has said during an interview with Sky Sports at the F1 Grand Prix in Saudi Arabia. “I’m actually out here [in Saudi Arabia] doing rehab. Today was my day off, I’m back training tomorrow. I’m back on the pitch and stuff so it’s going well.”

Arsenal have been flying so far this season, sitting top of the Premier League, and while Smith Rowe is delighted for his teammates, he has been left frustrated by his absence. “It’s going really well at the moment,” he added. “I’m really happy for the team but sometimes it’s annoying when I can’t feel like I’m involved, I can’t be on the pitch with my teammates. It’s amazing to see them doing so well and I can’t wait to get back.”

Smith Rowe will have been heartbroken to see his chances of making England’s World Cup dashed, but he is full of belief for the Three Lions.

“I’m really confident in the team, obviously we missed out at the last minute in the last big tournament,” he added. “I believe the boys are going to bring it home this time. The squad is really strong, it’s looking good.”
