But there was little Jesse Marsch’s side could do to prevent Nketiah from firing his side to a crucial three points as he early brace gave Mikel Arteta’s side a crucial three points in their push for a return to the Champions League.

Nketiah has been made to wait for an opportunity to shine this season but his double strike means he now has four goals in as many games over the last fortnight.

After the game, he told Sky Sports: “It’s amazing, it’s always nice to score, but I think it’s a big three points, like I said before the game.

“We’ve been working hard and we want to do it for the fans.

“It’s amazing to be able to get the three points and it moves us closer to our objective.

“Any player wants to be playing and have the opportunities.

“I’ve worked hard throughout the season to make sure I was ready when I got my chance.

“Credit to my team-mates for helping me when I play and do what I want.

“I’m just happy to be in the team and helping the team.”

Nketiah was pressed on whether the win and the impressive atmosphere at the Emirates would tempt him to extend his stay with the Gunners.

The in-form striker is out of contract this summer and has been linked with a move to several clubs in the Premier League and around Europe.

However, he focused on the “connection” between the club’s supporters and players, rather than addressing his immediate future.

“It’s a great atmosphere here and I think it’s been excellent throughout the whole season,” he explained.

“(I) really feel the connection between the players and the fans.

“It’s amazing to be involved and we are giving our all to make them happier and achieve our objective.”
