Arsenal’s first game in January comes on New Year’s Day against Brentford.

Arsenal will be looking into the New Year full of hope that they can close the gap in the Premier League to leaders Liverpool. The Reds are currently on top of the table, eight points ahead of Nottingham Forest in second, and nine ahead of the Gunners in third.

With Mikel Arteta’s title hopes relying on his side closing the gap, the Arsenal boss will likely be looking ahead at his fixtures to see just how many points they can accumulate in January. The Gunners won 1-0 against Ipswich Town in their last game which left them third in the league table. Liverpool’s next game comes against Manchester United at Anfield. The Reds won 5-0 against West Ham in their last match over the weekend.

Arsenal’s first game comes on New Year’s Day at the Gtech Community Stadium. They face a tough Brentford side, who have impressed under manager Thomas Frank this season. However, the Bees are winless in four games in all competitions and will be desperate to get back to winning ways.

Brighton vs Arsenal - Saturday 4 January

It doesn’t get any easier for Arteta’s side as they will then face another tough trip away to play against Brighton. The Seagulls are 10th in the league table, and nine points off Arsenal, the same gap that the Gunners have to league leaders Liverpool.

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur - Wednesday 15 January

The Gunners will then play two cup games in both the FA Cup and EFL Cup before their next Premier League game. The league game in question will be the second North London derby of the season as they welcome Spurs to the Emirates. The Gunners won 1-0 in the reverse fixture in September.

Arsenal vs Aston Villa - Saturday 18 January

Arsenal will then stay at home for a game against a tough Villa side. They’ll welcome former boss Unai Emery back to the Emirates. Villa sit seven points behind the Gunners and will be hoping to climb closer to the Champions League places.

Wolves vs Arsenal - Saturday 25 January

The Gunners finish off the first month of 2025 with a game against a Wolves side, who have become resurgent under new manager Vitor Pereira. A month in which Arsenal face several tough fixtures, however, they don’t come up against any of the current top five.

Liverpool’s January fixtures

Liverpool vs Manchester United - Sunday 5 January

The Reds meanwhile start their 2025 with a historic rivalry against a struggling Manchester United side, who sit just seven points off the relegation zone. United have lost their last four matches in all competitions. Ruben Amorim will hope for better during his first derby against Liverpool.

Nottingham Forest vs Liverpool - Tuesday 14 January

It doesn’t get any easier for the Reds as they will then face a trip to the City Ground to play against second-placed Forest. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have become the surprise package of the season, they are the only team to beat Liverpool this season.

Brentford vs Liverpool - Saturday 18 January

Arne Slot’s side then face another away trip to Brentford as they look to keep their title charge moving. Three games against three unpredictable sides to start January however, is probably not what Slot wanted to see.

Liverpool vs Ipswich - Saturday 25 January

With two Champions League games late on in the month, Liverpool’s last game in January is against Ipswich Town. On paper, an easy fixture, however Kieran McKenna’s side did just beat Chelsea 2-0 at Portman Road.
