Arsenal are interested in signing Barcelona attacker Memphis Depay in January, according to Fichajes. The Gunners are looking to add more goals to their attack.

The Gunners snapped up Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City in the summer and, while he has impressed in London, he has failed to score a goal since their win over Tottenham last month. It now looks like they could turn to a former Premier League star to bolster their ranks.

Depay failed to make an impact during his two years with Man United, scoring only two goals in the Premier League. However, he went onto bag 32 goal contributions across the 2020-21 season before earning himself a move to Barcelona.

While the Dutchman netted 12 goals in his first season in La Liga, Depay has fallen down the pecking order under Xavi and has only made three appearances in all competitions this season and has since demanded a move away from Camp Nou in January. With Arsenal eager to increase their options in attack, they could look to provide him with an escape route back to England.

With Depay’s contract set to expire next summer, Arsenal could lure the forward to London on the cheap in January - whilst he could also be available for free at the end of the season. However, they could face competition for his services, with the Red Devils reportedly considering re-signing him.

Erik ten Hag’s side are in need of a centre forward, with Cristiano Ronaldo looking to leave the club in the near future. The Dutchman could see his compatriot as a good option up top, though Depay may look for a fresh start rather than returning to a previous club.

Tottenham have also been linked with the 28-year-old and could rival Arsenal for his signature, however the Gunners’ current position in the Premier League may be more tempting.
