Arsenal could yet miss out on a key transfer windfall this summer.

The Gunners have spent much of their summer working on new recruits ahead of what they hope will be another title-challenging campaign. Mikel Arteta’s men fell short last season, but they are hoping to go one better this term, armed with around £200million worth of signings between Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber and Kai Havertz.

And they are not done there, reportedly pursuing a deal to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya who, ideally, would push Aaron Ramsdale for the starting role between the sticks.

Although, another player who would be impacted by such a deal is Matt Turner, who was Arsenal’s back-up last season. The American is yet to make a single league appearances for the Gunners since his arrival in 2022, and he now looks likely to leave the club.

Turner has been heavily linked with Nottingham Forest, who reportedly see the 29-year-old as a cheaper, and perhaps even better, alternative that Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, who spent last season on loan at the City Ground. Given Arsenal’s spending, Turner’s exit will be seen as one of a number of key exits that will need to take place for the club to balance the books between now and the end of the window, but it seems there may be a hiccup.

According to The Athletic, while Arsenal are still in talks with Forest over a potential deal for Turner, the two clubs are apart in their valuations. Turner is valued at around £6million by Transfermarkt, with Arsenal having paid around £5million for his services in 2022.

It’s unclear how much the Gunners will get for him this summer, but having not used Turner since his arrival, they may find it difficult to convince Forest to overspend. Then again, Henderson would cost them a lot more this summer, so Arsenal do have an advantage in that they can remind Forest that they are welcome to try their luck elsewhere.
