Arsenal have been linked with a summer move for Napoli midfielder Fabian Ruiz, according to reports in Italy.

Corriere dello Sport claim that Mikel Arteta is keen on the 25-year old Spaniard but could face competition from Premier League rivals Newcastle United.

It is reported that the St James’ Park side had a £40m bid for the player rejected last month but will reignite their interest in the next transfer window.

Fabian Ruiz is a 25-year old who plays as a midfielder for Italian Serie A side Napoli.

The Spaniard has been with the Naples side since 2018 when former Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri brought the player to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium from Real Betis.

Ruiz has been a regular in the Napoli side this season, competing in the Serie A and UEFA Europa League. He has made 22 appearances across all competitions and scored three goals.

In total, he has played 132 games for Gli Azzurri since joining in 2018 and scored 20 goals.

Ruiz has won 15 caps for the Spain international men’s team and featured in last year’s European Championship finals in their matches with Sweden, Poland and Croatia.

He has scored just one goal for his nation which came in qualifying for the Euros when he netted the first goal of Spain’s 5-0 win over Romania.

What has been reported about Arsenal’s interest in Fabian Ruiz?

Italian publication Corriere dello Sport have reported that Newcaslte United failed with a £40m bid to sign Fabian Ruiz last month.

Napoli were not willing to part with the player mid-season but are likely to be more amicable in the summer when the player will have just one year remaining on his current contract.

However, United are expected to have competition by then with Arsenal reportedly interested in the player.

The Italian site are also speculating that Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool will take notice of the player’s situation as could Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Arsenal confirm Aubameyang exited by mutual consent

Sky Sports have reported that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s Arsenal exit was by mutual consent with the player keen to leave and join Barcelona.

Although the former Gunner’s captain said it "hurts" to leave Arsenal "without a real goodbye", he added “to the Arsenal fans, thank you for making London home for myself and my family for the past four years.

“We went through ups and downs together and your support meant everything to me.

“Having the chance to win trophies and the honour of being the captain of this club is something I will forever keep in my heart.

“I have always been 100 per cent focused and committed on doing everything I can for this club which is why leaving without a real goodbye hurts - but that is football.”
