Aurelien Tchouameni fired France in front in the 17th minute before Harry Kane scored a penalty to keep England's World Cup dream alive.

But it wasn’t to be for England as Olivier Giroud headed Les Bleus back in front before Kane missed a crucial penalty kick.

“It is a really tough night to take,” England captain Kane said in the aftermath of the loss on Saturday.

“I am gutted, the team are gutted. We had full belief that we could achieve something special at this World Cup, but it came down to small details.

“I thought on the night we had the better chances and better spells in the game. It comes down to execution. As captain, I take it on the chin and responsibility missing the penalty.

“It is hard to take for sure, but I can be proud of the group; proud of each other for what we've done. This will hurt for a while, but we will dust ourselves down to get ready in the future.”

Fitness instructor Katie Goodland,39, took to Instagram to support her husband and the rest of the national team.

She reposted a snap from the England Instagram account, which shows Harry being comforted by Gareth Southgate. She wrote, "Always proud."

Katie also shared a post from David Beckham, 47, that read: “Our boys will continue to grow... It's always the worst feeling waking up after being knocked out of a tournament, but our players, Gareth, the staff and all our fans can be proud of this team.

“It takes a true leader to step up in these moments, and that's what our captain did. The next time it will be a different ending, we walk away with our heads held high @england."

The mother-of-three then posted a photo of the players and gushed: “What a team, our time will come”.

She buried her face in an England flag as the Three Lions' World Cup exit was confirmed.

Last year, Katie was spotted crying in the stands of Wembley Stadium after England’s devastating loss against Italy in the EURO 2020 final.

Harry and Katie met at Chingford Foundation School in London, and the childhood sweethearts married abroad in June 2019.

They share three children: Ivy, five, Vivienne, four and Louis, one.
