Canary Wharf: Two men dive in after woman falls in the River Thames

The incident happened at around 6pm on Thursday, with two of the individuals taken to hospital

Two men jumped into the Thames to assist a woman who had fallen into the river on Thursday.

Police were called to Canary Wharf at around 6pm.

All three individuals were rescued from the icy waters by emergency services at the scene near Heron Quays station, with police, ambulance, fire bridge and helicopters all responding.

Two of the people pulled from the Thames were taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service, with a third dismissed at the scene.

Footage from social media showed a dingy being used on the river to help the individuals, as well as police lowering a lifebuoy towards those in need of rescue.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said they responded “to reports of a woman who had entered the water at Heron Quays, E14. Two men then also entered the water to assist the woman.”

They added: “All three were subsequently safely recovered and are being assessed by London Ambulance Service. London Fire Brigade also attended the scene.”

London Ambulance Service were quoted as saying: “We were called to reports of a person in the water near Heron Quays, Canary Wharf.

“We sent a number of resources including three ambulance crews, an incident response officer and our hazardous area response team.

“We treated three people at the scene who had been rescued from the water.”
