Most of the ground floor and part of the first floor of a semi-detached house were damaged by the fire, which was brought under control by 7.02am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the Metropolitan Police said the blaze is not believed to be suspicious.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters from Walthamstow, Tottenham and Leyton fire stations attended the scene, the London Fire Brigade said.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed while investigations are being carried out.
