He plans to donate the funds to the charity Spot Project in order to build two wells in the country.

The original fundraising goal of £3,000 was doubled as donations flooded in, and Aydin says he now wants to get enough for two wells so they can have “one each”.

His mother, Pinar San, and brother, Abduselam San, both lost their lives in the earthquake that initially struck Turkey in the early hours of Monday, February 6.

Aydin said he was “very grateful for people helping my country” and with the amount of money that has been raised from around the world to aid with the disaster relief in the country.

He said the rest of his family in Turkey were “safe”, and that they were doing all they could to raise funds from the UK to help with the effort.

The death toll from the quake that struck Turkey and Syria at the start of this week has passed 40,000.
