As TfL’s Superloop is launched readers nominate their favourite London bus routes

London buses are an iconic feature of London’s streets, and known the world over. But it’s not all Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus - for many Londoners, TfL’s buses are an essential part of everyday life.

At present, the buses in the outer boroughs are undergoing a bit of an overhaul, with the rollout of London mayor Sadiq Khan’s ‘Superloop’ project. The new services are being created in part to make public transport easier to use as the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is expanded to the whole city, meaning people driving polluting cars face a daily charge.

We asked readers on our Facebook page which bus routes they are most fond of (follow us on Facebook to join the debate).

25 London bus

The 25 bus operates towards City Thameslink Station, starting from Hainault Street in Ilford and continues on until Snow Hill. The entire bus route consists of around 52 stops in total, passing Stratford Centre in the process.

N87 London bus

For one reader it was the N87 night bus between Aldwych and Kingston. The bus travels from Drury Lane to Fairfield bus station in Kingston. The particular route has 77 stops - the most of any on our list.

36 or the 2 London bus

For another reader, it was a toss up between the “36 or the 2”. The 36 begins at New Cross bus garage and completes its journey at Claremont Road. The 2 starts at Norwood Bus Garage, and the route terminates at Marylebone station, serving the Brixton Academy on the way.

414 London bus

The 414 bus connects Marble Arch and Putney Bridge station, taking in along the way major landmarks including the V&A and Chelsea Football Club’s Stamford Bridge. With just 27, it has the fewest stops of any route on our list.

66 London bus

The 66 operates in east London and tours from Romford station to Leytonstone station.

295 London bus

The 295 bus drives from Ladbroke Grove Sainsbury’s in west London and finishes at Townmead Road, near Kew Gardens.

H91 London bus

The H91 has 39 stops and connects Hammersmith and Hounslow West station.
