TfL: London bus countdown signs malfunction as Superloop launches

All digital countdown signs at bus stops across London stopped working on Sunday.

The TfL signs were stuck in a systems error, with some saying they are “authenticating...”.

Transport for London (TfL) put out a statement to customers on Sunday afternoon, saying the signs have been it by a “technical issue”.

TfL said the issue was expected to continue into Monday, but that up-to-date bus information is available on its website and the TfL Go app.

The signs were still malfunctioning at 8am on Monday but by 11.30am were back online.

The break-down happened the day after TfL launched the first service in its ‘Superloop’ scheme.

The first service sees route 607 between Uxbridge and White City renumbered SL8 and carrying the Superloop branding.

Some bus stops have been renamed to “better reflect their locations”, such as The Grapes, which becomes Hayes/The Grapes.

TfL said in its statement to customers on Sunday on the countdown signs problem: “A technical issue is currently impacting all of our Countdown signs at bus stops and shelters across London resulting in them not displaying bus arrival information.

“Our teams are working to resolve the issue, but we anticipate it will continue into Monday.

“Accurate real time information remains available from all other existing sources, including the TfL website and free TfL Go app.

“Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”
