Insulate Britain said in a statement: “We are not concerned with endless injunctions. We are not concerned with our fears.

“We are concerned with fulfilling our duties and responsibilities at this ‘period of consequence’.

“Starting from 7am on the morning of Wednesday October 27 the M25 will become a place of nonviolent civil resistance to stop our government from committing crimes against humanity.

“This government, our government, is actively pursuing policies that will lead to the destruction of our country due to climate catastrophe.

“In a free society, citizens have the right and a duty to rebel against plans which will knowingly result in the deaths of millions.”

The group are demanding that the government insulate all of Britain’s homes by 2030 to cut carbon emissions.

This is the 15th time that Insulate Britain has caused disruption on motorways and A roads as part of their campaign of nonviolent civil resistance over the past six weeks.

So far, 146 people have taken part in the campaign and there have been 690 arrests.

Protester Suzie, 47, from Cambridge, who works in childcare, said: “If going to prison and losing my home is what it takes to get the government to do the right thing and cut our carbon emissions then it’s a price worth paying.

“I can’t be a bystander while this government betrays the public, our children and future generations by failing to defend our country from the climate crisis.

“Insulating Britain’s leaky homes has to come first.

“It will cut out a huge chunk of our carbon emissions, help families struggling with their energy bills and end fuel poverty.

“It’s such a basic first step that you have to wonder why the government refuses to act.

“Don’t they care?”

Russell Lewis said: “Insulate Britain I agree with your argument.

“I would like nothing more than for my housing trust to insulate our flat but instead every couple of years they throw away money on basically tarting up our horrendous windows in our properties.

“However I disagree with your ridiculous methods.

“While you’re blocking the roads we are only polluting the atmosphere with car fumes sitting in traffic that you have created.

“Go and sit outside councils housing associations and protest there.”
