Zoe Garbett: Green Party names London mayoral candidate

Zoë Garbett is set to contest the next mayoral election for the Green Party.

The Green Party has announced Zoe Garbett as its candidate for the 2024 mayor of London elections.

Ms Garbett, 35, works in a non-clinical role for the NHS and is a councillor for the Dalston ward in Hackney.

She previously ran for Mayor of Hackney in 2022 where she came second.

The Greens finished third in the 2021 London mayoral election under Sian Berry’s leadership.

In a speech on Friday outside City Hall in Newham, Ms Garbett spoke of her plans to make London a Greener, fairer city with measures including free bus travel for young people and cleaner ways to use Silvertown Tunnel.

Ms Garbett’s candidacy received the backing of high profile Greens including the party’s sole MP Caroline Lucas, the party’s former co-leader Siân Berry and London Assembly member Caroline Russell.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan will run again for Labour in 2024. The Conservatives are yet to announce a candidate.
