PC David Carrick: New charges mean Met Police officer now facing 41 rape and sexual assault allegations

A Met Police firearms officer who has guarded the Prime Minister and is already facing a string of rape and sex assault allegations has been charged with another 12 offences after three new women came forward.

PC David Carrick, 47, now faces 41 charges involving 11 women.

Last October he was charged with the rape of a woman he was said to have messaged on Tinder then met in person at a pub in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

Then last November, Carrick faced a further 13 accusations after three more alleged victims came forward.

Before today’s additional charges he had been charged with 29 offences against eight women between 2009 and 2020, including 13 counts of rape, five counts of sexual assault and three counts of assault by penetration.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court via video link on March 21 to face the further charges.

Seven of the 12 charges relate to one of the existing victims. Five relate to three new alleged victims.

A Herts Police spokesperson said: “As part of the ongoing investigation by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, Metropolitan Police officer, David Carrick was charged with a further 12 offences, including rape, on Wednesday 16 March.

“Seven of the offences are linked to a victim who is already part of the investigation, and the other five offences are linked to three new victims.

The charges are four counts of sexual assault which allegedly took place between 2018 and 2020, three counts of rape which allegedly took place between 2018 and 2020.

There is a further count of rape which allegedly took place in 2004 and two counts of assault by penetration which allegedly took place between 2003 and 2009.

He is also charged with one count of attempted rape which allegedly took place in 2009 and one count of rape which allegedly took place in 2015.

The Herts Police spokesperson added: “Carrick, aged 47, and an officer with the Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, was arrested by Hertfordshire Constabulary on 2 October 2021, at his home in Stevenage.

“Carrick will appear by video link at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 March to hear the charges.

“He is listed to appear for trial at St Albans Crown Court on 26 April. An earlier mention hearing at St Albans Crown Court is being scheduled.”

The Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command is an armed unit stationed in Westminster, and is responsible for the protection of sensitive sites such as Downing Street.

A Met Police spokesperson said: “A Metropolitan Police officer has been charged with further offences as part of an ongoing investigation by Hertfordshire Constabulary.

“We recognise that these are extremely serious and concerning allegations. Referrals have been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct as the investigation has progressed.

“The Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards continues to monitor developments closely and will provide whatever support it can to Hertfordshire officers.

“National regulations dictate that any misconduct proceedings must await the outcome of the criminal case.”
