Patrick Hill, defending, said: “There is already a 29 count indictment which is currently before Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb for case management at the Central Criminal Court.

“The next hearing is tomorrow. There have been a number of first appearances as there has been staggered charging in this case.”

Prosecuting, Thom Dyke said: “Charges eight to 12 relate to three new complainants. Five to 12 are all indictable-only offences.”

District judge Snow agreed that the 12 new charges should be sent to join the 29 others.

He told Carrick the charges would be sent to the Central Criminal Court, adding: “You will be produced there in person tomorrow.”

And he told the court: “All the complainants have a right to anonymity which must be respected.”

Carrick was based within the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, the armed unit stationed in Westminster, responsible for protecting sites such as Downing Street.

He is currently suspended from duty.
