With the number of new restaurants that open in London it can be hard to keep track of what’s “hot” and what’s “not” in the capital. Thankfully, Michelin Guide have released their list for February of eateries in the city that are particularly pleasing to the palette.

As you might expect, the range of culinary endeavours is wide, from izakaya-inspired to modern British cooking that is closer to home. Here are six restaurants that Michelin recommends checking out this month:

Cafe Deco, Bloomsbury

Part of a new wave of casual eateries still serving high class food, Cafe Deco is brought to you by the people behind 40 Maltby Street (Borough) and Rochelle Canteen (Shoreditch). Expect simple looking plates of high quality produce and a menu where they don’t over explain what you’re about to consume.

The style of the cooking is European and you’ll be glad to hear there is an extensive wine menu with which you can pair your meal.

Evernight, Nine Elms

This izakaya - the Japanese term for a chilled out bar-cum-tapas place - from chefs Lynus Lim (formally of The Laughing Heart) and Chase Lovecky (ex-Clove Club) offers all the chicness you would expect from such a joint. The long table, communal eating style is in force here with a simple menu and generous drinks list.

Tucked away off the beaten track in Nine Elms, you won’t be disappointed if you make the trip to this fine example of casual Japanese dining.

Elis, Cambridge Heath

Named after Brazilian singer Elis Regina, this is Rafael Cagali’s second high-end restaurant he’s opened in Cambridge Heath, with Da Terra just around the corner. A mix of Italian and Brazilian cooking throws up some surprises across a mix of small plates and more traditional main dishes.

With Da Terra already having two Michelin stars, the renowned food guide are clearly enjoying what Cagali is bringing to the London food scene.

Langan’s Brasserie, Mayfair

Opened originally in 1976, Langan’s Brasserie was relaunched in 2021 and has reminded Londoners why it was such a hit in its heyday. Expect the classic Brasserie fare mixed with the luxury of Mayfair, and is as good a choice for drinks and oysters as a full three-course meal.

It opens for breakfast Monday to Friday if you’re in search of a high class spot for a business brunch with a range of breakfast cocktails on offer also.

Monarch Theatre, Soho

Ever thought there is a lack of DC Comics themed eateries in London? Well if so, we present you Monarch Theatre which has a range of dishes with titles like ‘The Penguin’ and ‘The Riddler’, with some wicked drinks advised to pair them with.

It’s connected to Park Row, a larger restaurant that also seeks to give that Gotham City diner experience, but don’t expect any acting from the waiters – it’s more about subtle nods and easter eggs for fans.

Piazza, Covent Garden

Located on the fifth floor of the Royal Opera House, Piazza offers a modern British menu for those either wishing to dine before or after the performance. The food is sustainably sourced from London markets, so you won’t have to worry about the carbon footprint of your duck hash or beef croquettes.

Piazza boasts a wide range of wines by the glass if you’re taking it handy, and a great list of classic cocktails if you want to let your hair down.
