10 London pubs for sale from an LGBT institution to a cute railway boozer

The hospitality industry has taken somewhat of a battering in recent years, as just as we came out of the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns we were hit by the cost-of-living crisis.

JD Wetherspoon has put a number of its landmark pubs, including several in London, on the market.

However, take a walk around any London suburb on a Friday night and you will see the thirst for going out remains strong among residents of the capital.

And some pubs have returned in the last year after periods of closure, such as The Sir Richard Steele and The Winchester in north London.

Below are 10 London pubs whose freehold’s are listed for sale on Rightmove, from a late night LGBT institution to a cute railways boozer down south:

Horse & Groom and El Chico’s (Lambeth) £2.75m

What’s better than buying a pub in a great London location? Purchasing a pub with a restaurant already attached to it, obviously.

The Horse & Groom is up for sale on Streatham High road (SW16 1DA) and comes with El Chico’s restaurant attached. The pub needs a good bit of work both inside and out, but has tons of potential for anyone who isn’t afraid to get their hands dirty.

The New Inn (Westminster) £4.5m

Sidney Philips has set an asking price of £4.5m for this pub with hotel rooms above, located just off Regent’s Park. Set over 4,611 square foot, there’s tons of space between the pub and six bedrooms above the premises.

The New Inn (NW8 6LA) can seat around 50 clientele inside, with space for another 24 outside the venue on the pavement area. The pub is a stone’s throw from Regent’s Park, with the nearby St John’s Wood Tube station a few minute’s walk.

Royal Vauxhall Tavern (Lambeth) £2.5m

Savills has listed this iconic late night LGBT venue for £2.5m, with the Royal Vauxhall Tavern (SE11 5HY) regularly hosting cabaret and club nights. The ‘Duckie’ night it runs on Saturdays has been going since 1995, making it one of the longest running club nights in the capital.

Set over four floors, the pub was given a Grade II listing in 2015 and has featured in films Pride (2014) and Absolutely Fabulous The Movie (2016). Located right beside Vauxhall Tube station, the pub is well connected to central London and the surrounding areas.

Railway Bell (Lambeth) £850k

If you’re in the market for a cute south London boozer (SE19 1PF), Savills has put the Railway Bell on the market with an asking price of £850,000. With a beer garden to the rear of the premises and good access to transport routes, this could be a great first pub for any prospective landlords out there.

The building is neither listed nor in a conservation area, so there’s good opportunity for renovation.

Jolly Anglers (Haringey) £1.85m

A pub that needs a lot of love and care, Sidney Phillips has listed the Jolly Anglers for £1.85m. Close to Wood Green Tube station, the pub is well connected to central London, with several regular bus services also close by.

The Woodhouse (Barnet) £45k

A cute wee boozer has been listed in Friern Barnet for just £45k by Guy Simmonds. The Woodhouse (N12 0RS) in north Finchley has space for 55 customers inside with a covered beer garden at the rear of the building.

The pub is free of tie and has a function room that is perfect for events. There isn’t currently a trade kitchen, but part of the cellar could be converted for this purpose.
