From comedy performances to classic car boot sales: Five events in London this St George’s Day weekend

A variety of fun events are happening in London this weekend from April 22 to 24 for people of all ages.

From Nish Kumar to the Trafalgar Square St George’s Day celebrations, here’s how to make the most of your weekend.

We’ve got a list packed with events for a variety of interests, from comedy to cycle shows, there’s something here for everyone to enjoy.

Family friendly celebrations to mark St George’s Day will return to Trafalgar Square on Saturday.

The event boasts a wide range of live music, entertainment and food, that will be hosted by presenter Michelle Ackerly.

Live musical performances are expected from string quartet Bowjangles, the hoedown collective Cut A Shine and brass band Das Brass.

Other entertainment includes St George and his Dragon and family activities such as The Knights Training School and a dragon selfie station.

This is the first St George’s celebrations to take place on Trafalgar Square since 2019, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I’m delighted that our St George’s Day festival is able to return to Trafalgar Square.

“The celebration of our historic past and modern diversity is a fantastic way for Londoners and visitors to enjoy our capital and honour everything that makes England the country it is today.”

After 10 years at the NEC in Birmingham, the Cycle Show is back in London for 2022.

The UK’s biggest cycle show will run alongside the London eBike festival, with the shows combining an indoor exhibition.

Test ride the latest mountain, gravel, road, commuter, leisure, children’s and electric bikes of all types around the hills of Alexandra Palace’s parkland.

Discover the new and latest in the industry, from bikes to tech plus all the must-have clothing and accessories.

Attending the event this year is Crystal Palace legend Geoff Thomas, who has cycled the full Tour de France route five times and also helped set up the charity Tour 21 that last year raised over £1 million for Cure Leukaemia.

A huge display of stunning classic cars and superb vintage stalls will be descending on Granary Square and Coal Drops Yard.

The Classic Car Boot Sale will also be offering a ‘Repair Shop’ area where you can tailor or fix up any of your much loved vintage items.

The 1970 Morris Minor custom ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Arts Club’ van will be making it’s UK debut alongside a range of vintage scooters, motorbikes and ride-ins.

Shop the vintage fashion, retro homewares, prints and collectables and help celebrate everything slow fashion.

You’ll be able to browse whilst listening to classic music from the 20s to the 80s and eat at one of the many street food and cocktail stalls that will all be in vintage vehicles.

The 34th edition of the London Art Fair is celebrating the very best of modern and contemporary art.

Comedian Nish Kumar is performing his critically acclaimed show Your Power, Your Control.

The double Edinburgh Comedy Award nominee, Nish Kumar announced his brand new UK tour.

Nish Kumar has achieved huge success as a stand-up comedian with five highly reviewed solo stand-up shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The comedian has previously been on The Mash Report (BBC Two) and is also seen on Taskmaster (Dave), Live At The Apollo (BBC Two) and Have I Got News For You (BBC One).

Talking about his show, Nish Kumar said:  “It has been a period of upheaval and uncertainty with COVID and the political situation. You will be amazed by my capacity to somehow take all these things personally."
