The JD Wetherspoon at London Victoria station has temporarily closed its doors while it undergoes expansion into a neighbouring space, which once housed a Yo Sushi.

The Yo Sushi was confirmed to be one of 19 branches of the chain to close in 2020, when several other London locations shut, including the Waterloo station location.

Since then, the site has remained empty but it will now enable the Wetherspoons expansion.

As Victoria commuters and visitors will know, the Wetherspoons Victoria Station pub is tucked away on an upper level, above the WHSmith in the concourse.

The chain's website says the area of the station was previously known as the 'Brighton side' in reference to the part of the station initially opened by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway.

While an official re-opening date is yet to be confirmed, the extended Victoria Stations spoons is expected to be up and running in mid-March.

London is already home to almost 100 Wetherspoons, including another based in the Victoria area. The Willow Walk is by the rail station, in Wilton Road.

The newest Wetherspoon in London is The Captain Flinders, which opened its doors at Euston Station earlier this month.
