London’s Sam Smith hosted A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins To Today.

Sam Smith, who hosted the A Positive Life: HIV from Terrence Higgins To Today podcast series, has shared how honoured they felt to have been involved with the project after it was celebrated at the British Podcast Awards 2023.

The eight-part podcast looked back on the stories of HIV over the past four decades, from the life of Terrence Higgins, one of the first people to die of an AIDS-related illness in the UK, to more current experiences with HIV, including those who were born with it.

The series, which had a weekly release from June last year, was praised this week during this year’s British Podcast Awards as it was named Podcast Of The Year.

Smith, who was in Paris for the city’s fashion week festivities, shared a video message in which they gushed about what "an incredible honour" it was for the project to receive the accolade.

They later added: "I’d like to dedicate this award to everybody on the frontline of the HIV/Aids pandemic, then and now. They are true heroes to us all."
