First look at new designs for Queen Elizabeth II memorial in London

The official London memorial to honour Queen Elizabeth II has finally been chosen.

A winning design for the St James’ Park memorial celebrating the legacy of the late Queen Elizabeth has been announced.

On Tuesday (June 24) it was announced international architecture firm Foster + Partners had been chosen to design the national memorial to be located at the heart of St James’s Park.

The proposed design features two reflection gardens, one at the Mall at Marlborough Gate, and the second adjacent to Bird Cage Walk.

The areas will be connected by a new water crossing which will be cast-glass balustrade inspired by Queen Elizabeth’s wedding tiara.

There will also be a few statues including one of Her Late Majesty on horseback and another by her husband and former Duke of Edinburgh Prince Phillip.

While the final designs are expected to be unveiled until next year, Foster + Partners have shared some photos of what the memorial could look like:
