Review: The current season at London's Phantom Peak is an epic adventure that can't be missed
The current season of the Canada water attraction Phantom Peak has begun and we were invited down before it relocates.
If you haven't already heard of it, Phantom Peak is an immersive world experience set right by Canada Water station on the Jubilee line.
Through its open world layout you take part in missions to help get to the bottom of townwide rumours and solve mysteries.
The attraction’s latest season, Jonacon, invites guests to visit the town of Phantom Peak during a convention celebrating the corporate giant Jonaco that transformed the once mining town to its current glory.
Bringing new storylines and adventures to the town, visitors get to discover more lore about the settlement and discover what they really think about Jonaco.
Having never visited the attraction before, I was worried I would feel lost but the whole experience was very beginner friendly.
After entering through a mine shaft tunnel, you walk straight into the old town where there is an opening ceremony in which the Phantom Peak Mayor welcomes all to the town.
As part of the ongoing Jonacon the Mayor explains there is also competition running which sees three groups battle it out to be crowned the overall winner.
Determined through your wristband which you receive upon entry, I was put in the red group aka team metaphysics.
Throughout your visit you take part in quests to earn tokens and the team with the most tokens is the ultimate winner.
To do the missions you’ll need to use your phone to log into a secret website which you are given the password to.
Before you receive your quest you’ll be asked a few questions to tailor what kind of task you want to do like whether you’re ok with tight spaces or whether you want a mystery or adventure.
We managed to complete two quests during our visit, but you could easily squeeze more in if you wanted to. Some guests put us to shame as they added handfuls of tokens from their completed quests to the team counters.
While one had us deal with a pr crisis which was soundtracked songs from the Wicked movie the second saw us help save the mayor from assassination.
Set across a 30,000sq ft mixed indoor and outdoor site, there was truly so much to explore. I didn’t comprehend how big the space was until a quest took me to the new town outside which has moats between rows of shops and stores.
Our visit was in the evening and while I initially thought we'd be rushed for time there is actually plenty of time to get stuff done and grab a bite to eat.
As the experience is self-guided through the use of your phone you can go at your own pace and don’t feel rushed.
While at the start the experience was quite hectic as groups of guests flocked to the same spots to start their quests, by the end it was more calmer as everyone got into the swing of it.
A lot of the activities also require the use of particular screens - the Videomatic or Jonavision which there were queues for to use throughout the experience. We ended up asking if anyone behind us wanted to watch our screen to help save others time queuing.
Something to note is if like me you’ve not visited before, you'll probably be walking around a lot trying to find where all the different places you need to go are along your quests.
We had to stop quite a few times to find a map and soon realised we had to head into the other section of the map then we were in.
The current Jonacon season is set to be one of Phantom Peak’s last at its current Canada Water location.
Phantom Peak has previously announced it is in advanced conversations with a new London venue, scheduled for opening in late 2025 / early 2026. However, a closing date is yet to be confirmed and details are limited.
We for sure will be back at Phantom Peak to explore its next season and can’t wait to see how the relocation plays into the town’s story (when it comes!)
