London Marathon 2023: 11 celebrities running the race around the capital, including Crown star Josh O’Connor

Each year the London Marathon brings together people from all walks of life, including the likes of amateur runners and Olympic athletes, as well as stars from across the world of showbiz.

Over the years, big names, including Countryfile star Helen Skelton, award-winning actress Cynthia Erivo and actor and comedian Stephen Mangan have all taken on the race in the capital.

From musicians to recognisable TV personalities, several celebs are set to join marathon participants at this year’s event. While some of them are seasoned pros of the race, for others, it’s their first time taking part.

As well as some familiar figures, the event is also set to welcome back a few of its reigning champions. Both 2022 winners, Kenyan long-distance runner Amos Kipruto and Ethiopian athlete Yalemzerf Yehualaw have confirmed they will both be defending their titles in this year’s event.

Here are some of the famous faces you can expect to see running the London Marathon this weekend.

11 celebs running in the 2023 London Marathon 

Josh Cuthbert - Former Union J star turned influencer will run the London Marathon a second time this April, just six months on from the last event in October. With a month to go before he takes to the 2023 starting line, the star shared a few snaps from his training in the capital in March.

Chris Evans - The broadcasting veteran who is familiar to Virgin Radio listeners for his morning show is also a seasoned London Marathoner. This year will mark his ninth marathon in the capital.

Harry Judd - McFly drummer is no stranger to the world-famous marathon too. When he’s away from his drum kit, the musician is an avid runner and has also run the London Marathon several times over the years.

Louise Minchin - Former BBC presenter helped front BBC Breakfast for almost two decades before she stepped down in 2021. Away from the screen, she has described herself as an endurance athlete on Instagram, with the upcoming marathon her first in the capital.

Josh O’Connor - The Crown and The Durrells star is also set to run as part of this year’s marathon. While film audiences get to see the actor’s sporty side in his upcoming project Challengers, watchers will get to see the star run across London’s sights this weekend too.

Joff Oddie - The Wolf Alice artist is set to swap his guitar for running shoes for the London marathon. The guitarist confirmed he’d be running this year’s event in February on Twitter as he joked about his last-minute entry.

Jake Quickenden - TV personality and former X Factor alum, is set to run in honour of both his late brother and father. Following their passing due to bone marrow cancer, the star is running to raise money for cancer research charity Sarcoma UK.

Sophie Raworth - The BBC broadcaster and newsreader has also run the marathon a few times before and will be joining runners at the starting line at this year’s event. She often shares her running antics on Instagram and, in her bio, describes herself as a "slightly obsessive long-distance runner."

Adele Roberts - The BBC Radio 1 DJ and TV personality has challenged herself to run the London Marathon this year after undergoing life-saving surgery 18 months ago. The broadcaster revealed she had been diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer in October 2021, but the following summer assured fans she was cancer free after her surgery which resulted in her needing a stoma.

Mark Wright - Former TOWIE star turned Radio host, will also be returning to the capital for this year’s marathon. Having run as part of the 2022 event in October, the star confirmed he would be once again last month.

Marcus Mumford - Frontman of folk rock group Mumford & Sons, is another musician taking on the 2023 London Marathon. The artist is running in honour of the Grenfell Foundation and will also be joined by members of the Grenfell community on the big day.

Natalie Cassidy - The actress known for playing Sonia Fowler on Eastenders is one of many stars from the show set to honour their past co-star Barbara Windsor. Ahead of the big day, Cassidy shared a photo of her marathon gear on Saturday (April 22), all ready to go on Twitter.

Lacey Turner - Fellow Eastenders alum Lacey Turner will also be a part of the soap stars taking part in Barbara Windsor’s honour. This year’s event will mark her first marathon after she had to pull out of the 2019 edition following the news of her pregnancy with daughter Dusty.

Adam Woodyatt - Eastenders veteran Adam Woodyatt will join Cassidy and Turner too. Best known for his character Ian Beale, the actor was a part of the show for almost four decades. Woodyatt is no stranger to the famous marathon, as he has competed in the event a few times over the years.

James Phelps - The Harry Potter star best known for portraying Weasley twin Fred in the well-known wizarding franchise is another actor running this weekend. He is running for Endometriosis UK, to raise money and awareness of the disease, with the actor explaining earlier this week his wife also suffers with it.
