We were lucky enough to interview stars on the red carpet at the September 5 premiere in London

If, like me, you get FOMO every time there’s a premiere happening in London, then you’ll want to listen up.

I finally got the chance to attend one this week and it was everything I’ve ever dreamed of.

On Tuesday (February 4) LondonWorld’s video reporter Jack Abela and I were invited down to the UK premiere of the new movie September 5.

The film takes place during the 1972 Munich Olympics when an American sports broadcasting crew finds itself thrust into covering the hostage crisis involving Israeli athletes.

To celebrate its UK release the movie premiered at the Curzon in Mayfair which is one of London’s oldest cinemas.

Walking up to the venue you couldn’t miss the bright lights that were illuminating the dazzling red carpet.

Arriving just before the carpet opened we got to see the final few things get set up including the large-scale movie posters that block the public’s view of the carpet.

Having previously seen glimpses of red carpets while covering premieres of the Barbie movie and Wicked from the outside, this was my first time on the carpet and it was a surreal moment.

We were let in around 4.30pm and led across the carpet to the press pen where an allocated slot had been reserved for LondonWorld.

After setting up our equipment, in typical London style it began raining but the premiere organisers were prepared as there were plenty of umbrellas on hand.

To prepare for the arrival of the movie’s stars we were handed a piece of paper that had pictures and names of all the confirmed stars that were expected to walk the carpet which included Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin and Leonie Benesch as well as screenwriter Moritz Binder and director Tim Fehlbaum.

From then we watched the carpet fill up with fans and staff before the talent (aka the celebrities) arrived.

Red carpet interviews

The stars were guided around the carpet in a very efficient manner, starting on the right they first greeted fans before various photo ops with photographers.

Next stop is press pens as they make their way through the long line of publications hoping to have a quick chat.

We were one of the last publications and as a capital focused site we asked the stars what some of their favourite places are in the city to visit.

From Hampstead Heath to some of the city’s best foodie spots we enjoyed hearing all the cast’s beloved spots around the city.

Before long it was time for the cast to take their seats inside for the screening of the movie and after packing up we got one more chance to walk across the carpet before returning to the streets of Mayfair to start our journey home.
