Liam Gallagher had to rename his dog after getting funny looks from 'geezers' on Hampstead Heath

Having dominated the headlines this week, the Oasis reunion has reminded us of the time Liam Gallagher changed his dog’s name after he got some odd looks for shouting its name while walking in Hampstead Heath.

The famously-feuding brothers announced they were getting the band back together this week with a string of comeback shows including a whopping four at London’s iconic Wembley Stadium.

The shows will see Liam and Noel Gallagher perform in the city they have called home for over nearly three decades. The pair are long-time London locals having lived in the north of the city in places such as Hampstead and Highgate since the 90s.

Liam mentioned living in Hampstead by the heath in a hilarious moment on the Jonathan Ross show in 2019 when he remembered how he changed his dog’s name from Sparkle to Ruby after a moment in the capital greenspace.

While appearing alongside actress Michelle Keegan who mentioned she had a chihuahua Pip, Liam revealed he had two furry friends of his own, Ruby and Bridget.

However while discussing their names, he said Ruby originally went by Sparkle which was chosen by his son Gene.

Liam explained: “I lived on Hampstead Heath and Gene came home with it and he called it Sparkle. I’d have to take it out on the Heath and it’d get lost in the bushes and I’m stood in the bushes going ‘Sparkle’.”

He continued: “It’s on Hampstead Heath where a lot of things go on and all these geezers are coming out like ‘ok…’. So I had to change the name to Ruby as it was a bit better.”

Two years on from the TV appearance, Liam shared the sad news Ruby had passed away on Twitter, now X. Paying tribute to her he remembered her former name as he wrote: “RIP RUBY aka SPARKLE.”
