Hackney Carnival to return after five years: Route, line-up and road closures

Hackney Carnival is back this summer, celebrating the borough’s diverse communities and creative talents.

Following five years of cancellations and altercations, the beloved family-focused parade and celebration will be back on Sunday, September 22.

From the parade route to road closures here’s everything you need to know about Hackney Carnival 2024.

Parade Route

The street parade, which is the highlight of the day, will feature eye-catching costumes, soul-stirring music and a spectacle of talents from over 30 parade groups. The parade begins at 12pm and finishes at 5pm.

The parade will kick off at the end of Mentmore Terrace near London Fields, turning left into Mare Street, before making its way to London Fields Park. Check the full route below to find yourself a good spot on the big day.

There will also be several venues hosting Carnival events, including the Town Hall Square, The Paddock, and more. Expect live music, delicious food, and community activities. Read here for more details.

Road Closures

The following roads will be closed on Sunday September 22.

Hackney Council has warned if you do need to travel on Sunday 22 to plan your journey in advance.

Drivers are asked to be aware of the closures and restrictions that will be in place and allow more time for your journey. The council advises local businesses to plan any deliveries outside of the closure periods or on an alternative day.

Mayor of Hackney, Caroline Woodley, said: “The return of Carnival is a chance for residents to come together to celebrate and showcase the creativity and talent that makes our diverse borough so special. For anybody who has yet to experience Hackney Carnival, now is your chance!”
