Everything you need to know about West Ham’s potential fifth summer signing.

West Ham are on the cusp of announcing their fifth signing of the summer transfer window after ‘agreeing personal terms’ with Yuri Alberto. The Irons have a few days left before deadline day ticks down and they’re pushing to add more firepower to their attack after their latest signing of Mohammed Kudus.

Corinthians striker Alberto only joined the Brazilian outfit in January but according to a new report from Football Insider, West Ham are putting together ‘the final finishing touches’ on the deal. Full agreed terms plus an official announcement ‘could come within 24 hours.’

Ahead of the potential unveiling of Alberto, let’s take a closer look at what kind of a player he is and what he can bring to both West Ham and the Premier League this season.

How old is Yuri Alberto?

Alberto turned 22 years old on March 18th and he was born in São José dos Campos in Brazil.

Who has Yuri Alberto played for?

Alberto currently plays for Sport Club Corinthians Paulista, or simply Corinthians, in the top flight of Brazilian football. He signed for the club on a permanent five year deal in January this year, after initially joining on loan in June 2022 from Zenit St Petersburg.

The forward’s time in Russia was short-lived though, as he joined just five months prior to his loan spell and eventual move to Corinthians. Zenit is the only club on Alberto’s CV outside of his home country so far and his move to West Ham will see him make his debut in English football. He spent three years at his first senior club Santos before joining Internacional in 2020 for two years.

Before being called up to the senior Brazilian national team, Alberto represented his country at U17 and U20 levels. He made his debut just after his birthday this year, coming on as a substitute to replace his potential new club teammate Lucas Paquetá in a friendly against Morocco.

What are Yuri Alberto’s stats?

During the 2022/23 season, Alberto contributed 10 goals and seven assists for Corinthians across all competitions. According to WhoScored, he averaged 2.4 shots per game, a 73.5 percent passing accuracy rate, and was fouled on average 1.8 times per 90 minutes in the Brasileirão.

Despite his short spell with Zenit, Alberto notched six goals and four assists in 15 appearances during his first experience of European football, contributing to the side’s 2021/22 Russian Premier League title.

Sofascore has highlighted Alberto’s key strength as anchor play but his main weaknesses include ball control and ground duels.
