West Ham look set to pull off a major coup with a former Chelsea and Arsenal target heading to the London Stadium

West Ham have reached a verbal agreement with Ajax for the signing of Ghanaian forward Mohammed Kudus, according to reports.

The Hammers had two bids rejected by the Eredivisie side but a deal worth €45m has been agreed, with a sell-on clause also coming as part of the deal.

That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano who reports a medical is due to take place on Saturday ahead of the forward signing a five-year contract with the Hammers.

It marks a major coup for David Moyes’ side with Arsenal, Chelsea and Brighton showing interest in the player earlier this window.

Brighton had agreed a fee with Ajax but the move fell through earlier this month while Chelsea and Arsenal never submitted an official offer, despite holding an interest.

Kudus scored 18 goals and provided seven assists for Ajax last term. He joined the club from Danish outfit Nordsjælland in 2020. He has featured in both of the club’s league games his season, providing a goal and an assist. He has just two years remaining on his current deal in Amsterdam.

He has made 87 appearances for Ajax, scoring 27 goals and providing 12 assists. He has been capped 24 times by Ghana and scored seven international goals.

Kudus scored a hat-trick on Thursday night as Ajax beat Ludogorets 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier. The player was asked about his future after the game and admitted it could be his final appearance.

He said: “Yes, I think it was my final game here at Ajax. But let’s see what happens in the next day. The talks are going on. We have to see if an agreement is reached in the next days”.

When asked directly about West Ham, he responded: “Good club, yes.”

The Hammers now appear to have got their man ahead of Saturday’s trip to Brighton. He is unlikely to be registered in time to face the Seagulls and could make his debut against Luton Town on September 1.
