West Ham will reportedly rekindle their interest in Sheffield United defender John Egan in January.

The Hammers apparently wanted to land the Championship centre-back in the summer transfer window but weren’t able to lure him to the London Stadium.

Egan, 29, ended up staying with at Bramall Lane and has since helped his team climb to the top of the table.

However, according to The Sun, David Moyes’ side are ‘preparing’ a £12million bid this winter in an attempt to snap him up.

West Ham target

West Ham could see Egan as someone to add more competition and depth to their defensive department.

The Republic of Ireland international has Premier League experience and has racked up over 350 appearances in his career to date.

He played for Sunderland, Gillingham and Brentford before Sheffield United signed him back in 2018.

Egan became a key player under former boss Chris Wilder and helped the Yorkshire outfit win promotion to the top flight in his first year at the club.

They stayed up for two seasons before eventually dropping back into the second tier last year.

The Blades are going for promotion again this term under Paul Heckingbottom, but West Ham may be coming back in for one of their most prized assets.

Other news

In other Hammers’ news, summer recruit Lucas Paqueta has been called up to Brazil’s latest squad.

His country have games against Ghana and Tunisia on September 23rd and 27th respectively.
