The Irons will take on Premier League trophy holders Manchester City with Julen Lopetegui so far unscathed from squad injury woes

West Ham will be back in action just three days after facing AFC Bournemouth in the EFL Carabao Cup as they take on Premier League title-holders Manchester City at the London Stadium.

It’s been a summer of immense change in Stratford with Julen Lopetegui welcoming eight new faces to the squad, including former Manchester United full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, as they seek a return to their European football via a strong 2024/25 Premier League campaign. After an opening day defeat to Aston Villa at home, Lopetegui’s side then secured a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace and will seek to build on their triumph as they face Guardiola’s power-house.

With such strong competition to contend with, the Irons will be grateful that so far they have kept their injury concerns to a minimum. Here is the early injury news from both London Stadium and Etihad camps ahead of the third Premier League weekend...

Manchester City

Oscar Bobb - OUT

Bobb is set to be out until at least December after suffering an injury in training. On August 16, it was said of the midfielder: “It was in the training session. Unfortunately, he had a big impact and got injured. He is having surgery this afternoon. Hopefully, it will go well, and he will be back in 3-4 months.”

Phil Foden - Doubt

The England international should be back in contention after he missed the 4-1 win over Ipswich through illness. Pep Guardiola gave no further update on the midfielder’s condition, thus indicating Foden’s stay on the sidelines should be short.

Mateo Kovacic - Doubt

Kovacic suffered a knock last weekend and, at the time of asking, Guardiola hadn’t spoken to the doctors but said: “We have six, seven days until the next game, and we will see if he can recover.”

Rodri - Doubt

The Spanish star picked up a hamstring injury in the Euros 2024 final and is set for a gradual comeback. Guardiola said of the midfielder: “He’s getting better. He’s now with the group. Maybe today partial training but it’s not good.” At this point, it is a race against time for the Spaniard to be fit.

At the time of writing, Wednesday 28 August, West Ham are enjoying a clean bill of health in their squad. They will face Bournemouth at home today in the Carabao Cup with a fully fit dressing room.
