Manchester United striker Anthony Martial once seemingly had the world at his feet when he first arrived at Old Trafford for £36m in 2015. Since then, his fortunes - and his performances - have greatly plummeted, as the Red Devils are reportedly planning to let him leave on a free transfer when his contract expires in the summer.

This is according to a report from CaughtOffside, who mention that West Ham United are interested in taking on the former Monaco star when he becomes a free agent. A fee-paying transfer could be made before this, but it seems unlikely at this stage.

As mentioned, Martial's time at United will ultimately go down in the history books as a disappointment. He has made 209 Premier League appearances for them, scoring 63 goals along the way - while these aren't particularly awful numbers, the hype that surrounded him when he joined the club eight years ago suggested that he was capable of far more.

Who else is interested in a move for Manchester United's Anthony Martial?

While the Irons' interest in Martial seems apparent, they are not the only ones in the race for the Frenchman's signature this month. Teams such as Inter Milan and Fenerbahce have been linked with a move for the player, while various unnamed clubs in the Saudi Pro League are also thought to be interested.

A move to Saudi Arabia would certainly be tempting, given their vast swathes of financial resources. However, Martial is thought to be uninterested in joining a club in the Middle East - instead, the 28-year-old will seek to stay in Europe. With this in mind, it certainly seems to bolster the Hammers' chances of bringing him to the London Stadium in the summer - even if his wage demands could prove to be formidable obstacle.
